Abbrevations and acronyms

General rule

To avoid confusion, try not to use abbreviations and acronyms in the microcopy because this may exclude users who do not have specialised subject knowledge.

Most of the time, for comprehension purposes, it's preferable to spell out words when they fit easily within our UI. However, we can use abbreviations when necessary to keep product name short and scannable.

Example (France)

Try this

“SAV” is universal jargon and keeps the title short

Avoid this

“batt” is a critical info for that product name instead of “batterie”
